DESCRIPTION:\nThis presentation is an overview of the Medicare Health System and how the system works in delivering health care coverage for nearly 60 million individuals.  The goal is to provide a basic understanding of how this system can be effectively used to obtain affordable quality health services.  We will examine the purpose and design of Medicare; its eligibility and enrollment criteria; and the various components of the Medicare system – their individual characteristics and function, how they interact within the Medicare system and coordinate with non-Medicare health care coverage (such as Medicaid).  Particular emphasis will be on the role of Medicare in the estate planning process and how it coordinates with the other benefits available to the individual client, and how to make the best choice of an individual health care strategy.\n \nBill McKendree is director of the APPRISE program in Allegheny County.  APPRISE is Pennsylvania’s State Health Insurance Assistance Program, helping consumers with Medicare, Medicaid, and other health insurance concerns.  In addition to his role at APPRISE, Mr. McKendree also teaches courses on Health Law and Health Care Policy at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Law and the School of Pharmacy.  Mr. McKendree has a J.D. degree from Duquesne University’s School of Law and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Pittsburgh.\n \n1 CFP, 1 CLE and 1 CPE credit granted\n \nPLEASE NOTE that membership renewals were due July 1.
